Mysterious Adventure Magazine‘s Summer issue is a black and white anthology from the likes of Matt Bennet and Scott Godlewski. I must profess to having thoroughly enjoyed the first issue of MAM, that introduced us to the Flying Phantom. He does make a return appearance in this issue however brief. But it is always a fun read when Godlewski is putting out a new Phantom story.

This time around the lead story is night shift. A “superhero” tale about a British crime fighter attempting to foil a crime. The artwork is top rate and the hook of the story is well worth it. Godlewski also brings us a short three page Flying Phantom story though while short is a nice piece and adds to the legacy of the character.

We also get a Fowl story from Dan Schkade which gives us the Fowl versus living embodiment poetry. Anyone who can use iambic pentameter and Haiku in a comic book story is good as far as I am concerned.

And of course there is the Broken Heart of Ogo Pogo by Josh Covey and Matt Bennett. Which has some startling visuals that really need to be seen to appreciate them. And our final entry is a good old fashioned pulp piece that follows up ever so slightly from the last issue. All in all a great issue and one well worth picking up. I’ll be posting reviews of the other Indyplanet books I picked up, so keep an eye out for them.

Today being new comic book day I decided to share my pull list from Indy planet. For those who don’t know Indy Planet has some of the best indy comic books out there and you should give them a look when you get a chance. These are just a few of the great comic books they have there.

I am looking forward to reading the Summer issue of Mysterious Adventure Magazine. I loved the last issue and Scotty and Matt always bring quality work to the table.  Anthony Schiavino is the creator behind Sergeant Zero and I have been keeping abreast of his updates on the project for a while now. So I can’t wait to get the issue in my hands.

The other comics I picked up due to word of mouth and familiarity with the talent involved. Once I receive my copies I’ll be sure to post a review of the issues. Now head over to Indy Planet and pick up some indy comics!
